WORK EXPERIENCE & FASHION INTERNSHIPS

Throughout 2016 I was lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to gain experience within the fashion industry on four occasions. Although they all gave me insights into different areas of the world of fashion, they allowed me to gain an awareness of what creative area of fashion I would like to go into one day. Whilst preparing me for the functions of the workplace, the roles also enhanced my visual communication skills to a professional level, furthered my understanding of product promotion via social media and traditional platforms and strengthened my natural flair as a creative writer which I intend use in order to establish a successful career within fashion journalism and editorial in the future. From February to September I underwent internships and work experience with Jules B, Spotlight Independent Fashion Show, IFlight Independent Designer Showcase and Hermione De Paula.

HERMIONE DE PAULA

Over the period of a week in February, I took on the role of showroom assistant during London Fashion Week for Hermione De Paula’s Bridal bespoke brand. Throughout the role I was able enhance my artistic skills by helping to display and create 3D decorations for the showroom, attain visual communication skills through the display of designer’s collection and become more adaptable by working with brands from other creative areas; catering, beverage, make-up. Lastly I was praised for successfully promoting a welcoming atmosphere to guests by demonstrating a sophisticated and professional attitude

IFLIGHT INDEPENDENT DESIGNERS SHOWCASE

During April I took part in the IFlight Independent Designer Showcase which was based in Nottingham. In terms of the experience I gained, I was able to identi ed new trends through working as a stylist for catwalk shows and photoshoots, whist also enhancing my skills in product promotion through representing various brands visually. Furthermore, I was able to utilize the platform of social media to connect and engage
with customers and develop skills within networking by exchanging information in order to gain professional contacts.

SPOTLIGHT INDEPENDENT FASHION SHOW

My second placement in April consisted of working as a production assistant during Nottingham Fashion Week based in Nottingham's Creative Quarter. During the role I effectively assisted the creative directors of the show to ensure the organisation of the event, whilst also increasing my confidence and verbal communication skills through working front of house and advertising to local businesses and press.

JULES B

During my role at Jules B from June to September, I gained many skills including an increasing understanding of business etiquette, the importance of collaboration, working across departments such as maintaining critical path, assisting the stylist on photoshoots and handling web sales. The role also allowed me to formulated the brand’s weekly blog, whilst writing product descriptions to enhance my awareness of brands and current trends. Throughout all of the roles I undertook across the year, this was de nitely the role that in uenced my aspirational job of working in editorial content, visual communication or perhaps styling.
